Lakers Edge Out Jazz in High-Scoring Affair, Thanks to Doncic’s Triple-Double
In a thrilling matchup on Thursday night, Luka Dončić delivered a standout performance, scoring 45 points, alongside 14 assists and 11 rebounds, marking his fifth triple-double of the season. The Los Angeles Lakers overcame the Utah Jazz with a strong fourth-quarter surge, finishing the game 143-135.
LeBron James contributed significantly to the Lakers’ victory, adding 28 points and 10 assists as the team outscored the Jazz 41-29 in the final period. Despite holding a 12-point lead during the quarter, the Lakers faced a late-game challenge as the Jazz narrowed the gap to 134-130. However, Dončić’s final assist to Jaxson Hayes solidified the Lakers’ lead and helped secure the win.
Hayes played an impressive game, going 7 for 7 and totaling 16 points, maintaining a perfect shooting record against Utah as a Laker with 26 consecutive successful shots in six encounters.
The Jazz, missing their leading scorer Lauri Markkanen due to a groin injury, were led by Keyonte George, who scored 33 points, making it his third consecutive game with over 30 points. Rookie Ace Bailey contributed 19 points as the team struggled to achieve a third consecutive victory this season.
Despite allowing their most points of the season, the Lakers celebrated their third win in four games. The Jazz’s offensive display was highlighted by a 65% shooting performance, leading 78-73 at halftime, their second-best showing of the season. Dončić was instrumental in keeping the Lakers close, contributing significantly to 16 of their 27 baskets in the first half.
The Jazz attempted a season-high 47 free throws, successfully making 31. Tensions flared in the third quarter, resulting in technical fouls for Marcus Smart, Hayes, and Dončić.
James capped a 10-0 run with two free throws, giving the Lakers a 114-108 lead after trailing since the game’s second minute. Despite tweaking his knee midway through the second quarter and sustaining a hit to the jaw later, James remained in the game.
