Tragic Loss of Inland Empire Teen During Soccer Practice
Vigil Planned for San Bernardino Teen Who Died During Soccer Practice
A vigil is set for a 12-year-old boy who tragically collapsed during a soccer practice in San Bernardino last week. Adriel Enriquez, a member of the Platinum IE soccer club, is remembered as a passionate player who died while engaging in what he loved most — being on the field with his team. His family confirmed that he suffered cardiac arrest.
“Our Platinum family is heartbroken, and we ask for your support as we come together to honor and celebrate his beautiful life,” the club shared on social media.
Enriquez joined the soccer club in May 2024 and was described by peers as sweet, gentle, and shy, possessing a quiet strength. The club commemorated him in their announcement, stating, “Forever our #23,” in reference to his jersey number.
In the wake of this tragedy, an online fundraiser has been established to assist the Enriquez family with funeral costs and related expenses. The fundraising page reflects on the shock of the family’s loss: “What started as a normal afternoon doing what he loved turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. (Adriel) was a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, and hearing him call me ‘tio’ truly warmed my heart.”
Adriel is survived by his father Ricky, mother Brenda, and brothers Axel and Arley, as noted on the fundraiser page.
