Luka Doncic Is Giving His All to Play Against the Thunder for the Lakers
Lakers’ Luka Doncic Unlikely to Play Against Thunder
In the wake of a 108-90 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first game of the Western Conference semifinals, the Los Angeles Lakers face a growing challenge as star player Luka Doncic remains sidelined due to a left hamstring injury. Doncic has not yet progressed to on-court contact drills during his recovery, which initially set a timeline of eight weeks for his return.
Speaking to reporters for the first time since limping off the court at Paycom Center on April 2, Doncic shared that while he has improved sufficiently to begin running, he has not yet engaged in contact drills. He described the recent Grade 2 strain in his hamstring as particularly severe and unlike previous injuries he has faced this season.
“I’m just doing everything I can,” Doncic said regarding his recovery efforts. “Every day I’m doing stuff I’m supposed to do. Obviously recovery, now I’m working … just going day by day, and I feel better every day.”
In addition to his recovery process, Doncic traveled to Spain to receive platelet-rich plasma injections, a treatment that indicates his commitment to a swift return. He underwent four injections, spanning a two-week period in Spain.
The absence of Doncic has posed significant challenges for the Lakers. Throughout a grueling six-game first-round series against the Houston Rockets, they also dealt with the loss of Austin Reaves, who suffered an injury in the same game as Doncic. Following their defeat to the Thunder, the fourth-seeded Lakers must now regroup as they prepare for the next game.
Meanwhile, Austin Reaves faced criticism for his performance in Game 1, which some analysts suggested was a determining factor in the outcome. Despite the team’s struggles, there remains hope for improvement as they move deeper into the playoffs.
The Lakers now look to bounce back in their upcoming matchups, needing to rely on their remaining roster as they attempt to level the series.
