Lorde Shares Why Justin Bieber’s ‘Daisies’ is Her Song of the Summer for 2025

Lorde has expressed her admiration for Justin Bieber, naming his song “Daisies” as her pick for the song of the summer in 2025.
In a recent feature for The New Yorker, published on December 1, the New Zealand pop star labeled “Daisies” from Bieber’s album Swag as “the closest we came” to a definitive summer anthem. “It ticked all the boxes for me,” she remarked, adding, “It has to be flirty!”
While some fans advocate for Lorde’s own track “What Was That” to take the title, she remains hesitant. “I should be so lucky as to make a song of the summer,” she commented, acknowledging her uncertainty about creating such music. “I don’t think I really make that type of music, but maybe I do. I’m happy to leave that to others.”
This year’s competition for song of the summer has been notably complex, with music enthusiasts debating the absence of a clear winner in 2025. In the same The New Yorker article, other artists shared their picks, with Sadie Sink highlighting Lady Gaga’s “How Bad Do U Want Me” and Amaya “Papaya” Espinal praising Bad Bunny’s “DtMF.”
According to Billboard‘s chart metrics, the official song of the summer honors go to Alex Warren for “Ordinary,” which impressively spent ten weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Morgan Wallen also made a significant impact with “What I Want” featuring Tate McRae, along with “Just in Case” and “I’m the Problem,” ranking Nos. 2-4 on the season-end SOTS list, respectively.
As Lorde indicated, Bieber’s smooth R&B-pop track holds strong merit. “Daisies” peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 and is nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
