Local TV Anchor Struggles with Voice Challenge on Air at CinemaCon
At CinemaCon on Wednesday afternoon, Universal Pictures unveiled an extended preview of Disclosure Day, an alien-themed sci-fi thriller directed by Steven Spielberg.
The film, which has already teased audiences with a previous teaser and a full-length trailer, featured fresh footage presented by Spielberg himself during the event in Las Vegas.
In the new clips, a local TV meteorologist, portrayed by Emily Blunt, unexpectedly falls silent mid-broadcast, producing a series of unintelligible sounds that captivate viewers. The cause of her unusual behavior is unclear, but it hints at a deeper mystery involving a shared past and a concerning grainy black-and-white video. As the plot unfolds, the characters find themselves on the run.
Colman Domingo, one of the film’s stars, joined Spielberg on stage to showcase the footage and engage in a discussion about the project.
Disclosure Day marks Spielberg’s return to extraterrestrial science fiction for the first time in over two decades, following notable films such as War of the Worlds, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and E.T. This new project explores humanity’s encounter with undeniable evidence of extraterrestrial life, echoing real-world themes amidst recent disclosures from U.S. government whistleblowers.
Following his Oscar-nominated semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans, Spielberg developed the original concept for Disclosure Day, which features a talented cast including Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, and Domingo. Longtime collaborator David Koepp wrote the script, while Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger produced the film under their Amblin Entertainment banner. Disclosure Day is set to hit theaters on June 12.
