Lindsey Vonn Takes a Break from Racing, Coach Shares Exciting Olympic Update
Lindsey Vonn withdrew from a World Cup super-G race on Saturday following a crash that injured her left knee a day prior. Despite the setback, her coach, Chris Knight, reassured the Associated Press that Vonn is focused on preparing for the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympics.
“She is not racing today but preparing for Cortina as usual,” Knight confirmed in a text message.
Vonn took to Instagram to share her disappointment, stating, “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to race today,” and expressing gratitude for the support she has received, which she said “means the world to me.” She added, “Doing my best right now…,” alongside praying hands and fingers-crossed emojis.
The accident occurred during a downhill race in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, on Friday. After crashing into the safety nets, Vonn was airlifted for medical evaluation after skiing down to the bottom of the course. The specifics of her injury remain unclear.
In her Instagram post on Friday, Vonn announced, “I crashed today in the downhill race in Switzerland and injured my left knee. I am discussing the situation with my doctors and team and will continue to undergo further exams.”
At 41 years old, Vonn is anticipated to be a key figure in the Winter Games, set to commence next Friday. Her first event is scheduled for two days later, where she will compete in the women’s downhill.
Saturday’s super-G was intended to be her final race before the Olympic event.
