LeBron James to Sport Special Jersey Patch for the Rest of the Season
LeBron James to Debut Commemorative Patch for Record-Setting 23rd NBA Season
LeBron James is set to debut a special jersey patch on Monday, marking his 23rd season in the NBA, a feat unprecedented in league history. The Los Angeles Lakers will play against the Sacramento Kings in this game, taking place in the city where James began his illustrious career.
The patch, prominently displayed on the upper right chest of his jersey, reads "23 NBA Seasons" and features a silhouette of James performing his signature chalk toss. It also incorporates colored stripes representing the three teams he has played for: the Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Miami Heat.
After each game, the patch will be carefully removed and later inserted into Topps trading cards. The Lakers’ equipment manager will handle the patch’s removal and date it, a process documented on video. Once authenticated, these patches will make their way to Topps’s production facility in Dallas for inclusion in collectible cards.
This initiative follows Topps’s return to producing NBA-licensed cards for the first time in 16 years, with recent offerings including a "Debut Patch" for rookies and gold NBA logos for award winners. In 2024, James signed an exclusive trading card and memorabilia deal with Fanatics, which acquired Topps in 2022.
As he takes to the court for this milestone occasion, James returns to Sacramento—a city significant in his journey, having scored 25 points in his NBA debut at just 18 years old. Now at 41, he boasts a remarkable career total of 42,601 points and stands as the only player to reach a 23rd season in the league.
Currently, James is averaging 21.9 points, 6.9 assists, and 5.6 rebounds this season. With 46 regular-season games still ahead for the Lakers, he is just 30 games shy of surpassing former Celtics center Robert Parish for the most games played in NBA history.
