LAUSD’s Plan to Notify Families About School Openings or Closures During Potential Strikes
Tentative Agreements Reached Amid Ongoing Negotiations for LAUSD Workers
As a potential strike hovers over the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), officials have announced that families will be informed by 6 a.m. Tuesday regarding the status of school operations.
Negotiations are currently underway between LAUSD and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 99, which represents 30,000 bus drivers, custodians, and cafeteria workers. The school district has successfully reached tentative agreements with two other unions but has yet to finalize discussions with SEIU Local 99.
SEIU Local 99 is advocating for improved wages, guaranteed increased work hours, and adequate staffing levels for its members.
In a show of solidarity, the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) and the Associated Administrators Los Angeles (AALA)/Teamsters 2010 have signaled their intention to join SEIU in a strike should negotiations with the final union stall. Such action would significantly disrupt operations across the district’s 1,302 campuses.
On Sunday, LAUSD reached tentative agreements to raise salaries for employees represented by UTLA and AALA.
In preparation for a possible strike, the district has assured families that resources will be made available. A dedicated website is now accessible, offering information on food distribution, alternative care options, technology support, and other services for those affected.
For the latest updates regarding school closures or openings, families can refer to the district’s official channels.
