Coffee Cup from Norwalk Starbucks Brings a Smile to Deputy with Pig Drawing
Coffee Cup Incident Sparks Concerns at Starbucks
A Starbucks in Norwalk, California, has found itself at the center of controversy after a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy received a cup of coffee featuring a hand-drawn image of a pig. This incident took place on January 9 while the deputy was on a 16-hour shift.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) expressed its "deep concern" about the matter. The deputy, visibly upset, shared the experience on social media, stating, "When I received my drink, I noticed an employee had drawn a pig on the cup. It felt discouraging and disrespectful, especially after a long day of serving the community. All I wanted was caffeine, but instead I left feeling uneasy."
After reporting the incident to the store manager, the LASD confirmed that the manager assured they would investigate the situation further. In response, Starbucks has initiated its own investigation and has since issued an apology to both the deputy and the department.
A spokesperson for Starbucks stated, "We have a deep appreciation and respect for law enforcement, who are dedicated to keeping our communities safe." They clarified that the drawing was intended to resemble a popular internet meme and was not meant to be given to any customer.
The drawing appears to depict "John Pork," a character from a viral TikTok meme showcasing an animated pig receiving phone calls. Recently, the meme gained further attention when it was referenced on the television quiz show Jeopardy, leaving host Ken Jennings puzzled as he presented the clue to contestants.
This incident has raised questions about workplace culture and respect towards law enforcement, highlighting the broader implications of how humor is interpreted in public settings.
