Lakers Send Gabe Vincent to Atlanta in Exchange for Luke Kennard, Trade Activity Expected to Wind Down
The Los Angeles Lakers have made a strategic move by acquiring sharpshooter Luke Kennard from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Gabe Vincent and a second-round draft pick in 2032. The deal was confirmed by sources familiar with the transaction, though they were not authorized to speak publicly.
Kennard’s arrival is expected to enhance the Lakers’ offensive capabilities, particularly in creating space for key players like Luka Doncic, LeBron James, and Austin Reaves, who recently returned from a lengthy absence due to a calf strain.
Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, Kennard is currently leading the NBA with an impressive three-point shooting percentage of 49.7%, achieved over 46 games with the Hawks, all while coming off the bench. Throughout his nine-year career, he has maintained a three-point shooting average of 44.2%. On average this season, he has recorded 7.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, while also shooting 53.8% from the field.
While Kennard may not fulfill all defensive expectations for the Lakers, sources indicate that his proficiency in making open shots has been viewed as a valuable asset.
With the NBA trade deadline set for noon PST today, the Lakers are not anticipated to pursue additional moves at this time. Instead, they are strategizing for a substantial summer overhaul, as they will have approximately $60 million in salary cap space and three first-round picks in 2026, 2031, and 2033 to bolster future trade negotiations.
