LA County Prosecutors Share New Details on the Rob and Michele Reiner Murder Case
Arrest Made in the Deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner
Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested on Monday, a day after the bodies of his parents, acclaimed Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, were discovered in their Brentwood home in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles County prosecutors are set to address details surrounding Reiner’s arrest at a press conference scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
Nick Reiner faces charges of suspicion of murder following the tragic deaths of his parents. Rob Reiner, 78, is known for his films "When Harry Met Sally…," "A Few Good Men," and "This Is Spinal Tap," while Michele Reiner, 68, was a talent photographer and producer. Their deaths have sent shockwaves through the entertainment community, prompting an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and political figures.
According to a source close to the investigation, both Rob and Michele appeared to have suffered stab wounds. However, the medical examiner has yet to determine an official cause of death. As of Tuesday morning, no formal charges had been filed against Nick Reiner, who currently remains in custody and is expected to make an initial court appearance later this week. His attorney, Alan Jackson, noted that Reiner had not yet been medically cleared to appear before a judge.
"There is hope that he will be able to appear in court later this week," Jackson stated.
The Reiner family’s struggles with Nick’s drug addiction have been widely reported. He has spoken openly about his tumultuous relationship with substance abuse, which dates back to his teenage years. In a 2016 interview, he shared, "I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun."
In 2015, Nick and Rob Reiner collaborated on the coming-of-age film "Being Charlie," which dealt with father-son dynamics. Reflecting on that project, Rob Reiner told the Associated Press, "It forced us to understand ourselves better than we had. Whatever happens to this thing, we won already. This has already been good. We’ve worked through a lot of stuff."
The family’s appearance at the premiere of "Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues" in September underscored their ongoing connection despite the challenges they faced.
As the investigation unfolds, the Hollywood community is left grappling with the profound loss of two influential figures.
