Krysten Ritter Reflects on Her Friendship with James Van Der Beek: “Grateful Yet Heartbroken”
Actress Krysten Ritter has expressed her sorrow following the death of her former co-star, James Van Der Beek, known for his role in the ABC sitcom Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23.
Van Der Beek, who gained fame from the hit series Dawson’s Creek, is being remembered by fans for his contributions to both shows.
“Really hard news today,” Ritter shared on Instagram, accompanying her message with a photo of Van Der Beek.
In a heartfelt follow-up post, she added, “Beautiful human inside and out. Smart, funny, empathic, kind, talented and just pure magic. I’m so grateful for our friendship and so heartbroken. All my love goes out to his amazing wife Kimberly and their children.”
Ritter concluded her tribute with a nostalgic image from the set, stating, “Love you so much, James and fake James.”

In the short-lived series Don’t Trust the B— in Apt. 23, which aired from 2012 to 2013, Van Der Beek portrayed a parody version of himself.
He passed away on Wednesday, February 11, at the age of 48 after battling colorectal cancer.
His family announced the news on Instagram, stating, “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”
