Kim Cattrall Opens Up About Her Menopause Journey and Important Insights from Her 60s
Kim Cattrall Advocates for Women’s Health Awareness at Natural Cycle’s Event
Kim Cattrall, famed for her role as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City, has emerged as a vocal advocate for women’s health, focusing on issues ranging from menopause to breast cancer. At the recent launch of Natural Cycle’s Perimenopause program, an app designed to help women track symptoms and patterns during this often-unclear life stage, Cattrall emphasized the importance of candid discussions about these topics.
“Anything that empowers women to look after themselves I’m for,” Cattrall stated. Her commitment to honesty reflects the candidness of her television character, who broke ground by openly discussing previously taboo female experiences.
During the event, Cattrall shared her personal struggles with insomnia, a challenge that greatly impacted both her professional and personal life. “Hands down, my insomnia because it was so debilitating… I didn’t know what it was,” she explained. Initially uncertain whether her sleeplessness was stress-related or dietary, Cattrall eventually recognized the need to “learn how to sleep again.”
Reflecting on generational differences, she noted that women of her mother’s era managed such changes without the same level of understanding. “My mom and her generation just got on with it… It was called ‘the change.’ What does that mean?” she asked, highlighting the lack of clarity that often accompanies menopause.
Cattrall also spoke about the therapeutic support that helped her regain confidence. “I went to a cognitive behavior therapist. It took about eight months for me to feel that I was confident enough to go out on my own,” she revealed.
Expressing her frustrations, Cattrall remarked, “It’s a bh. It really is a bh. I can’t say it’s gotten good reviews from very many.” She advocated education and open conversations with peers and healthcare professionals as essential tools in navigating these life changes.
Emphasizing the importance of self-care, she noted her heightened focus on sun protection, influenced by her mother’s battle with skin cancer. “It was more about taking care and being more aware,” Cattrall explained, stressing the value of patience and vigilance in personal health.
Cattrall encouraged all women to educate themselves about their bodies and to maintain a diary of their experiences. “Your body is telling you something very clearly… Your priority is you,” she concluded, reinforcing the need for women to prioritize their well-being amid life’s transitions.
