Kevin Spacey to Star in WWII Drama ‘Melodies In The Forest’ at Cannes Market
EXCLUSIVE: Kevin Spacey will take the lead role in a new World War II drama titled Melodies in the Forest.
Produced by Ventitre SRL in collaboration with Pink Flamingo Media Group, the film’s principal photography is scheduled to commence in October, with locations set across Italy and the Czech Republic.
Spacey will portray Petr Novotni, an 85-year-old acclaimed conductor whose tumultuous wartime past comes back to haunt him. The cast further includes John Savage (The Deer Hunter), Vincent Spano (Rumble Fish), Antonella Salvucci, Andrea Bruschi, Danny Kamensky, Riccardo Campione, Casper Kellndorfer, and Enzo Storico.
Blue Eyes Film and Distribution has secured worldwide sales rights for the film, planning to showcase it to international buyers at the Cannes Market.
Written and directed by Roberto Lippolis, known for The Cat & the Moon, the official synopsis reveals the gripping narrative: When celebrated conductor Petr Novotni is abducted during a routine walk, he recognizes his captor as Yosef—a Jewish composer he met in Terezín in 1942. As the case unfolds, Novotni’s children uncover a hidden memoir that challenges everything they thought they knew about their father, leading them to confront issues of guilt, complicity, and the heavy toll of survival.
Sales negotiations were handled by Michael Cowan of Blue Eyes Film and Ivan Perciballi of Xlegion, who also serves as an executive producer. Additional executive producers include Lippolis and Storico for Ventitre SRL, along with Jayney Mackie for Pink Flamingo Media Group.
Cowan described Melodies in the Forest as an “extraordinary story grounded in documented history,” emphasizing the project’s potential to resonate with a wide audience through its impressive cast and creative team.
“We’re bringing Melodies in the Forest to Cannes as one of our most significant acquisitions to date,” Cowan remarked.
