Keke Palmer Emphasizes the Importance of Alone Time Over Living with a Partner, Even After Marriage
Keke Palmer Emphasizes Independence in Romantic Living Arrangements
Keke Palmer has made it clear that she prefers to maintain her independence when it comes to living arrangements with romantic partners, even hypothetically discussing marriage. During an appearance on NBC’s Today show, the 32-year-old actress expressed her desire for personal space, stating, “You can be in the guest house, we can be on the same land, but I’m over there and he’s over there.”
This discussion unfolded as Palmer joined hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones on February 2, promoting her new series The ‘Burbs. The trio delved into contemporary dating trends, notably the importance of addressing significant topics—such as marriage and parenting—early in a relationship.
“I think that’s actually good. Just get it out of the way,” Palmer remarked. “Sometimes you end up talking to somebody and y’all never talk about anything real, any of the things that actually show compatibility life-wise.”
As the conversation turned to children, Hager playfully initiated a role-play scenario, asking Palmer about her views on parenting. Palmer, who is a mother to her 2-year-old son Leodis with ex Darius Jackson, replied, “I could be open, but one thing I need you to know is I never want to live together. I like my alone time.” She emphasized the sincerity of her feelings by clarifying, “That’s real. I’m speaking as The Keke.”
Palmer drew on a quote from Whoopi Goldberg to reiterate her stance. “She was like, ‘I don’t want nobody in my house.’ And I feel that. I’m serious—married, even.”
In response to Jones’ question about living proximity, Palmer elaborated, “Around the corner would be great… You can be in the guest house, we can be on the same land, but I’m over there and he’s over there. At best, separate rooms.” She also mentioned her reluctance to share a bathroom with a partner, adding, “But think about how fun it would be to be like, ‘I’m going over to my man’s house.’ Over there, hi husband! It keeps it fun and exciting. I want to go sit on his couch.”
Palmer’s new series The ‘Burbs premieres on February 8, and she is set to appear in the film I Love Boosters, which will hit theaters on May 22.
