Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have officially finalized their divorce, marking the end of their 19-year marriage on January 6, 2023.
According to documents obtained by Billboard, the Fourth Circuit Court of Davidson, Tennessee, granted the legal dissolution of their marriage. Neither party will be required to pay spousal support or receive alimony, with each responsible for their own legal fees and expenses.
Billboard has sought comment from representatives for both Urban and Kidman.
The couple first disclosed their separation in September, with Kidman filing for divorce shortly thereafter. In her filing, the Oscar-winning actress cited “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.” Both parties agreed at that time to amicably divide their assets.
A signed parenting plan included in the final documents grants primary custody of their two teenage daughters to Kidman for 306 days each year. Urban will have visitation rights every other weekend. While both parents will share responsibilities regarding major decisions affecting their daughters’ lives, a provision states that if they cannot agree on such decisions, Kidman will have the final say.
Urban and Kidman began dating in 2005 and married in Sydney in June 2006. They welcomed their first daughter, Sunday, in 2008, followed by their second daughter, Faith, in 2010.
In a 2022 interview, Kidman reflected on their relationship, stating, “I met him later in life and it’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. That man is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
The couple’s last public appearance together was at a FIFA Club World Cup game in June 2025. Earlier, they attended the Academy of Country Music Awards in May, shortly after their Beverly Hills home was burglarized on Valentine’s Day.
In the months following their separation, both Urban and Kidman remained largely quiet about their split. However, Kidman hinted at a significant life change in an interview with Vogue, stating, “How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going, and then it isn’t going in that direction?”
During a concert in October, Urban altered the lyrics to his song “The Fighter,” which he previously indicated was about Kidman. While performing with Maggie Baugh, he sang, “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player,” instead of the original line, “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter.”
