Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore Are Back for Season 2 of The Assassin
Prime Video Confirms Second Season of "The Assassin"
Prime Video has announced the renewal of the thriller series The Assassin for a second season, with production slated to commence later this year. The news follows initial reports regarding the show’s development, which was created and written by Harry and Jack Williams.
Keeley Hawes will reprise her role as Julie, a former assassin whose tranquil life on a Greek island was disrupted in Season 1 when her son, Edward, played by Freddie Highmore of The Good Doctor, sought answers about his paternity. Highmore will also return for the new season, along with Shalom Brune-Franklin, who plays Kayla, Edward’s determined fiancée, and Devon Terrell, who portrays Kayla’s unpredictable brother, Ezra.
The upcoming season picks up after a troubling trip to an undisclosed location in Northern Europe that left Edward and Julie estranged. While navigating her return to the assassin lifestyle, Julie also faces the challenges of the dating scene. After Edward’s honeymoon takes an unexpected turn, he must reunite with Julie to confront the corrupt underworld in Spain, exploring whether they can resolve their differences while completing their mission.
“I can’t wait to step back into Julie’s world,” Hawes said. “To reunite with Freddie and our extraordinary cast, and to dive deeper into Julie’s life and her complicated relationship with Edward, is a privilege. There is so much more to uncover.”
Highmore expressed excitement as well, stating, “What fun it’ll be to get the gang back together. I can’t wait to be reunited with so many of the cast and crew. Harry and Jack have cooked up another spectacular adventure, and I feel so lucky to have the brilliant Keeley as a sparring partner once again.”
In North America, the first season is available on the AMC Networks’ streaming service AMC+ and on Crave and CTV in Canada. The series also airs in Latin America through NBCUniversal, with additional distribution handled by All3Media International, reaching platforms such as HBO Max in France, Mediaset in Spain, and Stan in Australia.
Produced by Two Brothers Pictures in association with All3Media International, executive producers Daisy Mount and Alex Mercer reflected on the ensemble’s return, stating, “Reuniting with Keeley, Freddie, Shalom, and Devon is a real privilege as we dive back into the world of The Assassin – of course we couldn’t leave them sailing off into the sunset in blissful harmony. The second season is full of twists, turns, and thrilling unpredictability – just like the characters at the center of it.”
Joining the executive production team are Harry and Jack Williams, along with Sarah Hammond. The directors for the upcoming season include Terry McDonough and Sarah O’Gorman.
