Katie Couric has set a straightforward New Year’s resolution for 2026: “less scrolling, more reading.” Her target is to read one book each month, a commitment she plans to share with her 2.1 million Instagram followers by creating KCBC, a new celebrity book club.
“I love to read,” Couric explained in an exclusive interview. “Keeping up with current events and scrolling social media too often was consuming my headspace and leaving little time for great books.”
In 2025, Couric enjoyed various notable reads, including Signal Fires by her friend Dani Shapiro and All the Beauty in the World by Patrick Bringley. However, she admitted she didn’t finish as many books as she intended. When she sought input from her Instagram followers about starting a book club, the response was overwhelmingly positive.
Her Instagram post garnered over 56,000 likes and nearly 10,000 comments, with responses expressing enthusiasm, such as “OMG. I LOVE this idea!! Invite me!” and “YES a book club with Katie would be so fun! I am in!”
Couric hopes that KCBC, which stands for Katie Couric’s Book Club—playfully reminiscent of the rock band AC/DC—will not only help her stick to her New Year’s resolution but also encourage her followers to do the same. “Many people feel they spend too much time on their phones,” Couric remarked. “It’s not just a problem for teenagers; it affects adults too.”
Additionally, she aims to leverage her influence to persuade authors to participate in live interviews. Virginia Evans, the author behind this year’s breakout novel, The Correspondent, is confirmed to join Couric on January 19.

“I slid into her DMs, as they say,” Couric remarked. “I extended a formal invitation, akin to writing a letter, because The Correspondent is an epistolary novel, comprised of letters.” She expressed delight that Evans was excited to hear from her.
Members of KCBC will be able to join Couric and Evans through her Substack platform, the designated home for the book club.
Regarding book selections, Couric plans to crowdsource her choices. “I’ll select a book and hope people enjoy it and feel excited,” she said. Although her primary focus will be on fiction, she intends to include some nonfiction as well. “I’m genuinely looking forward to reading more fiction because I primarily read about current events,” she shared.
After The Correspondent, her second book for 2026 will be Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage by Bell Burden. While she has yet to choose her third book, Couric is enthusiastic about sharing her next selection with KCBC members and engaging with both the author and her audience.
“There’s something special about conversing with authors who pour their heart and soul into their work,” Couric said. “They deserve our gratitude and appreciation, and I love diving behind the scenes to understand their inspiration, process, and lessons learned from writing.”
