The Prince and Princess of Wales participated in a lively curling competition on January 20, 2026, at the National Curling Academy in Stirling, Scotland, with Kate Middleton besting her husband, Prince William.
This outing marked their first official engagement during a visit to Scotland, intended to showcase the country’s rich heritage and traditions that foster community connections.
In video footage shared on X by Emily Ferguson of the Daily Express, both William, 43, and Kate, 44, took to the ice, donning appropriate footwear for the sport. During practice rounds, the Prince of Wales initially found the curling stones easier to manage than his wife, remarking on his teammates’ intense sweeping during his competitive round.
Nonetheless, Princess Kate made a significant impact during her turn, successfully launching her attempt and ultimately leading her team to victory.

The Princess of Wales, dressed in a turtleneck and skirt, showed her adaptability by swapping her heeled boots for flat black ones suitable for curling. Similarly, Prince William changed from brown oxfords worn earlier in the day while visiting The Kelpies in Falkirk to black sneakers more appropriate for the ice.

Curling’s origins date back to 16th-century Scotland, and during their visit, the royal couple learned about the team’s preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games. Known for their competitive spirit during joint appearances, Kate’s victory in curling was reminiscent of a previous spinning competition in which she triumphed over William while wearing a skirt in South Wales in February 2023.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are both enthusiastic about sports and fitness, a passion they share with their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.
