Actress Kat Dennings Shares Insights from Her Childhood Bedroom
In a recent appearance on Danielle Fishel’s podcast, *Teen Beat*, Kat Dennings disclosed the personal touches she added to her childhood bedroom. Dennings, now 39, revealed that she spent her younger years living in the attic of a historic home in rural Pennsylvania, built in 1695.
During the episode, which aired on January 28, she described the unique characteristics of her attic space. “There were the classics like, you know, lights turning on and off, doors opening and closing…. I saw that s—. There were, like, places on the stairs that were ice cold,” Dennings recounted, adding with a laugh, “I lived in the attic, and it was very creepy.”

Throughout her childhood, Dennings adorned her attic room with images of her favorite celebrities. She recalled frequent trips to New York for auditions, where she would stop at Hudson News to purchase copies of magazines like *Teen Beat* and *Tiger Beat*. “I would tear out the Jonathan Taylor Thomases, and I would tear out the Hansons, and I would paper my room with these things,” she said.
She humorously added that she once owned a cutout of the band Hanson, which she acquired from a now-closed store, Sam Goody. “They gave it to me. I think they took pity on me, or they were scared, which I would understand,” Dennings joked about her eclectic décor. “So I made this terrifying haunted house my own.”
Dennings launched her professional acting career in 2000 when she landed a role on *Sex and the City* at the age of 14. Reflecting on her early experiences in the entertainment industry, she has previously discussed the challenges she faced, including harsh criticism about her appearance from casting directors.
“The time that I was auditioning and starting to act, it was a very different environment than it is now,” she mentioned. Despite these criticisms, Dennings emphasized that they did not break her spirit, stating, “I was like, ‘I’ll show them.’” Her parents supported her through these tough moments, encouraging her to disregard the negative feedback.
