Juliette Howell Steps Down from House Productions After a Decade to Lead Lookout Point
Two Prominent UK Film and TV Executives Part Ways in Major Industry Shift
In a significant development within the UK entertainment sector, Juliette Howell has announced her departure from House Productions, the company she co-founded with Tessa Ross a decade ago. Howell will take on the role of CEO at Lookout Point, the producer behind acclaimed series such as Happy Valley and Gentleman Jack.
The transition underscores the ongoing evolution within BBC Studios-backed entities. Howell’s shift comes as Lookout Point searches for a fresh leadership perspective following the exits of former co-CEOs Laura Lankester and Will Johnston, who recently joined A24. Louise Mutter will remain as Managing Director at Lookout Point.
Ross is set to continue as the sole CEO of House Productions, which has carved out a reputation for quality film and television work, including the Oscar-winning Conclave, BAFTA-winning Sherwood, and Emmy-nominated Brexit: The Uncivil War. The company is also known for its collaborations, such as the upcoming Mint and A24’s The Iron Claw. Plans are underway for House to appoint a new leader to oversee its television division as it prepares for the third season of Sherwood.
Howell and Ross launched House Productions in 2016 with support from BBC and Access Entertainment. They previously discussed their ambitious slate in a 2024 interview.
Howell, formerly the TV chief of Working Title, has an extensive history in producing critically acclaimed projects, including London Spy and the BBC/HBO film Mary And Martha.
Zai Bennett, CEO and Chief Creative Officer at BBC Studios Productions, remarked, “Juliette’s appointment reflects not just the creative strength of the shows we make, but the people who make them. By placing one of our most dynamic leaders into this role, we’re ensuring Lookout Point remains fearless and creatively charged for the future.”
Expressing her enthusiasm, Howell stated, “I’m thrilled to be bringing my exciting slate of projects from House to join Lookout Point’s impressive production slate. I can’t wait to collaborate with the brilliant team shaping the next generation of hits and to continue championing the bold distinctive storytelling that has always excited me.”
Ross added her support, saying, “I’m very proud of the work that Juliette, the team and I have done together over these last ten years at House. I’ve no doubt she’ll be a big success at Lookout Point and wish her great good luck and happiness.”
