Judy Reyes to Reprise Iconic Role in Scrubs Reboot
Judy Reyes, renowned for her memorable portrayal of nurse Carla Espinosa on ABC’s beloved series Scrubs, is set to return to the character in the show’s newly announced reboot. This award-winning actress, who garnered multiple ALMA Awards during the show’s 17-time Emmy-nominated run, continues to captivate audiences with her on-screen performances. Currently, she stars in ABC’s hit drama High Potential, playing Selena, a no-nonsense police lieutenant, alongside Kaitlin Olsen and Daniel Sunjata.
In a recent interview, Reyes expressed her thoughts on beauty and self-acceptance. “Beauty to me is… a great laugh,” she shared, highlighting the importance of joy in life. Reflecting on aging, she noted, “The greatest thing about aging is… not giving a shit.”
Reyes revealed that she feels most beautiful after a good night’s sleep and mentioned, "The beauty move I can’t master is… getting these curls poppin’.” When it comes to professional beauty treatments, she relies on facials and mani/pedis, stating that these are essential to her self-care routine.
Among her must-have beauty products, Reyes keeps tinted lip balm and makeup sheets close at hand. Recently, she tried Pilates for the first time, demonstrating her commitment to wellness. "I am proudest of… my skin," she added, sharing that her on-set preparation tip is to always carry a fan.
Reflecting on her career, Reyes recalled her first big splurge after booking roles was for laser hair removal. A memorable encounter at an awards show involved not a bathroom run-in, but meeting Prince during the ALMA Awards tribute to Sheila E.
In her downtime, Reyes enjoys tea and jigsaw puzzles as a way to unwind. Her first beauty memory, she said, was discovering that she could wear her hair curly instead of straight. As a frequent traveler, she ensures to pack essentials including face wash, sunscreen, and moisturizer.
