Judd Apatow Shares His Hope to Encourage Unity After Losing the 2016 Golden Globe to Ridley Scott
Judd Apatow put aside past grievances with the Golden Globes during the ceremony on Sunday night to present the Best Director award to Paul Thomas Anderson.
The director humorously revealed that he had been boycotting the event for the last decade, following the loss of his 2015 film Trainwreck to Ridley Scott’s The Martian in the Best Picture – Musical or Comedy category.
Apatow expressed that the loss had lingered with him through significant events over the past decade. “A lot has happened since then…we’ve had COVID. I believe we’re a dictatorship now. And I’m still pretty focused on this Martian thing. I gotta be honest with you,” he remarked. He added, “As an example to inspire America, I’m going to squash that beef and start the healing right now.”
In a heartfelt moment, he also applauded his wife, Leslie Mann, whom he referred to as his “muse.”
Apatow has received one Golden Globe nomination for co-writing the original song “Walk Hard” from Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
