Jon Stewart Shares a Laugh About the New Season of ‘The Bachelorette’ and His Unexpected Joy
Renowned comedian Jon Stewart addressed the current tumultuous state of affairs in America, commenting on the chaotic atmosphere surrounding former President Donald Trump. “The dizzying, chaotic carnival ride that is Donald Trump’s America continues to careen down shitshow hill. It’s madness out there: TSA lines longer than your actual trip; escalating threats in the Middle East; planes driving into trucks,” he stated.
Amidst this chaos, Stewart found a silver lining, quipping, “The only thing giving me joy is looking forward to this season of The Bachelorette. I mean, they’ve got a strong Mormon woman. She seems lovely. I hope that she finds love—hold on a second, I’m getting a call. Nooo!”
Stewart’s remarks come in the wake of controversy surrounding both Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and ABC’s The Bachelorette. Allegations surfaced involving cast member Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex, Dakota Mortensen, in connection with a domestic assault incident. As the accusations gained traction, production on the fifth season of Mormon Wives was suspended.

Further turmoil emerged when a distressing video from 2023 showed an aggressive encounter between Paul and Mortensen in the presence of a child, which surfaced on TMZ. Consequently, ABC made the decision to cancel Season 22 of The Bachelorette, just days before its premiere. “In light of the newly released video, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family,” the company remarked in a statement.
Currently, Disney is evaluating the future of the Paul-led season of the dating series, along with the long-term implications for the franchise. They are also assessing when to resume production on Season 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives—which has already been greenlit for a sixth season—and how to offer support to Paul and Mortensen in the coming weeks and months.
