Johnny Knoxville Discusses the Risks of Another Concussion in the Next ‘Jackass’ Movie: “I’ve Pushed My Limits”
As preparations ramp up for yet another cinematic iteration of the Jackass franchise, Johnny Knoxville is taking a more cautious approach. The co-creator of the iconic MTV reality stunt show, which first debuted in 2000, recently confirmed that a new Jackass film is set to hit theaters on June 26.
Knoxville, who has been an integral part of the series, expressed his growing concern about safety, noting, “I’ve accumulated too many concussions since launching the series.” During an appearance on Syndicate X Library, he stated, “I can’t do anything where I can get another concussion. [I’m] way over my limit for concussions, but I don’t care about anything else. I just can’t get hit in the head anymore… but a lot of other guys can.”
Despite his reservations, Knoxville conveyed his enthusiasm for the stunts, saying, “[The stunts are] so fun. They’re pure hell for the cast, but they’re a lot of fun for me. They’re having fun too. So, I’m very excited about that.”
When questioned about the number of emergency room visits he has endured, Knoxville humorously remarked, “I should have stayed in school. Maybe things would have turned out differently for me. I could have named how many times I’ve been to the ER.”
Last week, Knoxville took to social media to announce the upcoming Jackass film. “Well a wang dang and hot damn doodle, we are starting the year off with a bang. We wanted to let you know that this summer Jackass is back!! We will see you in theatres June 26th,” he wrote. “More to come but wanted you to hear it from us first!!”
The Jackass series, co-created by Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine, and Spike Jonze, initially aired for three seasons on MTV from 2000 to 2001 and has since spawned several film adaptations.
