- John Mellencamp communicates with his daughter Teddi Mellencamp “every day” as she navigates her stage 4 cancer battle.
- Teddi currently has “10 lesions in her brain,” which, although non-cancerous, “interrupt her thinking,” according to her father.
- Mellencamp is set to embark on his Dancing Words Tour — The Greatest Hits this summer.
John Mellencamp recently shared that he speaks to his daughter Teddi Mellencamp “every day” as she undergoes treatment for stage 4 cancer, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by her condition. Despite the presence of “10 lesions in her brain,” Mellencamp noted that they are not cancerous but do affect her cognitive functions.
“She’s been going through hell the last year,” Mellencamp remarked. “Even though the lesions are not cancerous right now, they still interrupt her thinking, and it’s in her frontal lobe,” he explained.
The frontal lobe of the brain, as noted by the Cleveland Clinic, plays a crucial role in regulating thinking, emotions, and personality.

Although the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, 44, has had some lesions removed, she continues to undergo radiation therapy for those that remain. “The lesions are still there, but the cancer’s not,” Mellencamp stated. “That doesn’t mean she’s home free; it just means right now there’s no cancer. So she has to keep on this treatment for who knows how many years.”
Mellencamp’s comments align with Teddi’s own revelations made on the October 3 episode of her podcast, Two T’s in a Pod, where she discussed being cancer-free but still facing the challenges of ongoing immunotherapy. “I’m still going to be having days when I’m feeling sick… so I’m still fighting because you have to be,” she noted.
Despite the progress, Teddi clarified, “I’m not considered in remission or anything like that.” Her cancer journey began in 2022 with a stage 2 melanoma diagnosis. After facing the invasive cancer with 17 surgeries, she revealed in April 2025 that it had advanced to stage 4, spreading to her brain and lungs. Her treatment regimen includes immunotherapy, radiation, and surgery.

Mellencamp further shared that the physical toll of cancer has altered Teddi’s personality. “She’s still the same person, but she’s not the same person,” he remarked. “It’s not fun.”
Residing in Bloomington, Indiana, Mellencamp plans to visit Teddi during an upcoming trip to Los Angeles for the Grammy Awards. “I talk to her every day. Great kid,” he expressed.
Following this trip, Mellencamp will embark on his Dancing Words Tour — The Greatest Hits. “I don’t mean to sound corny, but I could never, in my wildest dreams, have imagined, when I made my first record at 22, that at 74, I would still be here,” he reflected.
He also hopes Teddi might consider moving back to Indiana to be closer to family. “I’ve tried to talk her into moving back home… but she won’t do it,” he shared.
