Jim Gaffigan Joins Colin West for a Heartwarming Meeting Near Cleveland in Fantasy Dramedy Featuring Alex Wolff, Brooklynn Prince, and Sarah Wayne Callies
New Fantasy Dramedy ‘Outside of Cleveland’ Completes Filming with Notable Cast
Alex Wolff, Jim Gaffigan, Brooklynn Prince, and Sarah Wayne Callies have concluded their roles in the upcoming fantasy dramedy Outside of Cleveland. Directed by Colin West, who previously collaborated with Gaffigan on the sci-fi dramedy Linoleum, the film is produced by Brain Scratch Productions and 1515 Films.
The narrative centers on Max, played by Wolff, a nostalgic songwriter in his thirties who returns to his hometown of Cleveland to assist his parents, portrayed by Gaffigan and Callies, in moving out of their childhood home. During this process, Max unexpectedly finds himself transported back to his teenage years, where he reconnects with a neighbor, played by Prince, whom he had previously overlooked. This journey forces Max to confront the reality of his past and reassess the idealized memories he has held onto as an adult. Torn between his fiancée, Olivia Jude, waiting for him in Chicago, and the allure of his youth, Max faces the crucial decision of whether to remain anchored in the past or embrace the present.
The film features additional performances from Michael Ian Black, Jay Walker, and Jay Westbrook.
Production was a collaborative effort between Chad Simpson’s Brain Scratch Productions and Dan Erdman’s 1515 Films, alongside Drew Johnson and Heather Francis. Burton Welly, Chadd Harbold, Kinley Welly, David Erdman, and Robert Wheaton served as executive producers. Filming took place in their hometown of Columbus, Ohio, continuing the collaborative spirit established in Linoleum.
“Outside of Cleveland is a story that attempts to thread together the lives we live with the lives we could have lived, weaving memory, regret, and possibility into a single emotional narrative,” West explained. “Our crew’s boundless creativity and Alex Wolff’s grounded performance made it possible to tell this multilayered, magical story.”
Wolff, recognized for his roles in Hereditary and Pig, is set to appear in Sony’s upcoming Jumanji film, which releases on Christmas Day.
Gaffigan, known for his work in comedy, is also involved in HBO’s fourth season of The Gilded Age, along with several independent films such as New England Toys, Three People in the Woods, and Crosshairs.
Prince, who gained acclaim from The Florida Project, continues to pursue varied roles, including appearances in Home Before Dark, Cocaine Bear, and The Marsh King’s Daughter.
Callies, celebrated for her performances in The Walking Dead, Prison Break, and Colony, remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
West’s previous film, Linoleum, debuted at SXSW in 2022 and was later acquired by Shout! Studios. As a filmmaker, West has garnered recognition for his creative storytelling and has been a recipient of the Alfred P. Sloan Science in Cinema Prize.
With a promising cast and an intriguing premise, Outside of Cleveland is poised to capture the interest of audiences as it navigates themes of nostalgia and self-discovery.
