Jameela Jamil has spoken out following the release of court documents in Blake Lively’s ongoing lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. The documents reveal Jamil’s critical view of Lively during a conversation with Abel, who represented both women.
In August 2024, after the debut of Baldoni and Lively’s film It Ends With Us, Jamil criticized the tone of Lively’s promotional interviews. In a text message, she described Lively as “a suicide bomber at this point” and stated, “I’ve never seen such a bizarre villain act before.”
In an Instagram Stories video shared on January 22, Jamil clarified her interpretation of feminism, saying, “Guys — guys — feminism means fighting for the political, social, and economic equity of women. Just gender equity. It does not mean you have to like every single woman.” While she did not explicitly mention Lively, her comments came in the context of discussions surrounding the recently unveiled text messages.
She emphasized that feminism doesn’t necessitate friendship among all women, stating, “[Feminism] does not mean you have to be friends with every single woman; it means you can actually beef with other women. You can criticize them, you can do whatever you want, as long as you are also fighting for their human right to the same things that men have in this world. That’s all feminism is. It’s a moral and political stance; it is not a sleepover where we braid each other’s pubes. Okay?”

In her video, Jamil added, “If you are fighting for women’s rights but you don’t get along with every single woman, it doesn’t make you a bad feminist. You’re still a feminist; keep fighting for those rights and thank you for fighting for those rights.”
Jamil’s remarks coincide with a ongoing court case involving Lively. The actress has sued Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment and retaliation, claims that Baldoni denies. Lively is seeking more than $160 million in damages. Meanwhile, Baldoni’s counterclaims of extortion and defamation have been dismissed by a judge. This case is set to go to trial on May 18.

Jamil’s texts are part of a larger collection of personal communications unveiled in the lawsuit, which also includes messages from Lively to fellow celebrities like Taylor Swift and emails to Matt Damon and his wife, Luciana, concerning her experiences while making the film.
