ITV Brings Back ‘Name That Tune’ with Alison Hammond as Host
ITV to Revive Iconic Gameshow ‘Name That Tune’ with Alison Hammond as Host
ITV is set to bring back the beloved gameshow Name That Tune, featuring Great British Bake Off host Alison Hammond in the lead role. This revival marks a return for a show that originally aired on ITV several decades ago and has seen a successful reboot in the U.S. on Fox.
Name That Tune pits contestants against each other, testing their music knowledge through a series of rapid-fire rounds. Participants will engage with tracks from renowned artists across various genres, ultimately building towards a thrilling finale. The band that accompanies the Fox version will also join Hammond for the ITV reboot, adding a familiar touch, as they have performed with well-known acts like Adele and the Spice Girls over the years.
The gameshow has a rich history, having aired on Fox for five seasons after its revival in 2020, hosted by Jane Krakowski. Originally created by Harry Salter in the 1950s, Name That Tune debuted on ITV from 1976 to 1987. It later had a brief revival on Channel 5 in the 1990s and has been featured sporadically in the U.S. for the past 70 years across networks like NBC and CBS.
Alison Hammond is a prominent figure in broadcasting, already presenting ITV’s This Morning and Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off. She has recently taken on hosting duties for a new music series on Channel 4 titled Your Song.
The reboot is being produced by ITV Studios’ emerging label Bright Entertainment, in collaboration with BiggerStage. ITV’s Director of Entertainment, Reality & Daytime, Katie Rawcliffe, expressed enthusiasm about reviving Name That Tune, stating, “It’s a fun family series that not only sees contestants challenged in the studio, but viewers can play along with all the family, providing a unique playlist that spans generations.”
Prentiss Fraser, Fox Entertainment Global President, highlighted the success of the current U.S. series, stating, “We’re thrilled to see it find a new home on such a fantastic network and excited to be part of bringing the UK version to life.”
The series has been commissioned by Rawcliffe and Louise Major, the Entertainment Commissioning Editor at ITV. Executive producers for Bright include Clara Elliott and Martin Scott, while Pat Kiely and Sean O’Riordan serve as executive producers for BiggerStage. Name That Tune is owned by Prestige Entertainment Group and is based on Salter’s original format, with Fox Entertainment Global facilitating the partnership between Prestige Entertainment Group, BiggerStage, and ITV.
