Is D4vd Facing the Death Penalty?
Gruesome Details Emerge in D4vd Murder Case
LOS ANGELES – New and disturbing information has surfaced regarding the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Court documents allege that D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, used chainsaws to dismember the victim’s body and attempted to dispose of the evidence in an inflatable pool.
Prosecutors claim that the two were involved in an illegal relationship, which became a focal point in the case. According to the District Attorney’s Office, Burke killed Rivas Hernandez after she threatened to expose their connection.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the cause of death was homicide, attributed to "multiple penetrating injuries with unspecified objects." During preliminary hearings, it was revealed that Rivas Hernandez’s remains were discovered in two bags within a Tesla registered to Burke in September 2025. The body was so decomposed that dental records were required for identification.
The timeline of events indicates that Rivas Hernandez was murdered on April 23, 2025. Prosecutors provided further chilling details:
- April 24: Burke allegedly ordered a shovel from Home Depot.
- May 1: Delivery of two chainsaws was reportedly received.
- May 5: Burke ordered a body bag, heavy-duty laundry bags, and an inflatable pool from Amazon under the alias "Victoria Mendez."
- July 7: He is accused of ordering a "burn cage."
It is alleged that Burke took "horrifying measures to destroy and discard" Rivas Hernandez’s body, claiming he used the inflatable pool and chainsaw to cut her limbs. The presence of blue fragments from the pool was confirmed as embedded in her remains. Furthermore, two of her fingers, notably the left ring and pinky, have not been located; it is believed that Burke amputated them due to a tattoo on her ring finger featuring his name.
Earlier reports from LAPD investigators indicate the pair had been in a sexual relationship, which prosecutors allege began when Burke was 18 and Rivas Hernandez was just 11. Rivas Hernandez had been reported missing twice from her home in Lake Elsinore in early 2024, and during a welfare check at Burke’s residence, he allegedly claimed ignorance regarding her age.
The motive behind the murder appears to be connected to a heated argument over Burke’s relationships with other women the night before Rivas Hernandez’s death. This altercation allegedly led to her threat of revealing their relationship, coinciding with the release of Burke’s debut album, "Withered," just two days later.
On April 20, 2026, Burke was charged with murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and unlawful mutilation of human remains. He faces special circumstance allegations, including murder of a witness and murder for financial gain. Depending on the outcome of the case, he could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole. The decision on seeking capital punishment will be determined by LA County DA Nathan Hochman at a later date.
Burke has pleaded not guilty, and his legal team maintains his innocence.
