Ilia Malinin’s Energy-Saving Approach in His Olympic Debut Helps Team USA Stay in the Lead
Ilia Malinin Shines in Olympic Debut, Team USA Maintains Lead
In a notable performance during his Olympic debut, figure skating star Ilia Malinin, often referred to as the “Quad God,” secured a second-place finish. In a strategic move, Malinin opted not to attempt his signature quad axel to conserve energy for later events.
Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama impressed the judges with a standout score of 108.67 points, nearly 11 points ahead of Malinin. Despite this individual success, Team USA held onto a slim one-point lead in the overall team standings.
Adding to Team USA’s momentum, dance duo Madison Chock and Evan Bates delivered strong showings, winning both of their programs. Their performances poised the team favorably as they head into the medal finale on Sunday.
