IKEA Announces Opening Date for Its First City-Center Store in Culver City, LA
IKEA to Open New Store in Culver City on May 2
CULVER CITY, Calif. – IKEA will officially open a new location in Culver City on May 2, marking a significant expansion of the brand’s footprint in Southern California. Situated in the Helms Design District, this urban-concept store aims to enhance accessibility for Westside residents.
The store, which spans 38,050 square feet, will feature a unique "city-center" format—the first of its kind in Los Angeles—offering 3,000 items for immediate takeaway and free design consultations. Ahead of the grand opening, a "Soft Opening" and ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for April 29, where the first 100 visitors will receive $100 gift cards.
“This is a thrilling step for us as new neighbors in the historic Helms Design District,” said Gustavo Tinajero, Area Market Manager. “We are excited to introduce a more accessible way for Westside customers to shop, plan, and experience IKEA.”
Unlike the larger suburban warehouses, the Culver City store will emphasize compact, metropolitan living solutions, catering to urban residents’ needs. It will provide shared parking within the district, alongside additional free parking on the corner of Venice Boulevard and Helms Avenue.
The new location will also include free one-on-one consultations for kitchen and bedroom planning, aligning its offerings with the lifestyles of Los Angeles residents. While larger furniture will need to be ordered, over 600 furniture pieces and thousands of smaller items will be available for immediate removal.
Although the Culver City location will not feature a full-service IKEA Restaurant, customers can visit "Swedish Bites," a café that offers a selection of snacks and beverages, including popular items such as Swedish meatballs and cinnamon buns.
Looking ahead, IKEA plans to expand further into the U.S., with new stores slated for locations including Huntsville, Alabama, and the Dallas region of Texas by 2026. Currently, IKEA operates 482 stores across 32 countries, with 52 of those in the United States.
Interim CEO Rob Olson emphasized the company’s commitment to growth: “Our focus on continued investment in the U.S. will make IKEA more affordable, accessible, and sustainable as we progress into FY26.”
The grand opening event on May 2 will feature live music, food samples, and children’s activities. Following the opening ceremony at 10 a.m., a Block Party will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with special giveaways for the first 500 visitors.
