Hwang Dong-hyuk Shares Excitement for His New Netflix Series ‘The Dealer’
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of Netflix’s record-breaking series Squid Game, has announced a new drama series for the streaming platform. The show, titled The Dealer, has been ordered by Netflix and is produced by Dong-hyuk’s Firstman Studio.
This crime series centers on Geonhwa, a talented casino dealer whose wedding plans are abruptly shattered. As a result, she is compelled to reveal her hidden abilities and navigate the treacherous world of gambling to achieve her desired wedding.
According to the logline, Geonhwa is an exceptionally skilled dealer who lives a life distanced from the darker aspects of the casino environment. However, her world is turned upside down by a housing scam that threatens her marriage. This push forces her into the very underworld she has worked to avoid, compelling her to unleash her full potential.
The cast includes Jung So-min as Geonhwa, alongside Ryoo Seung-bum, Lee Soo-hyuk, and Ryu Kyung-soo. Seung-bum portrays Hwang Chisu, a man who relies on gambling at casinos until he becomes embroiled in Geonhwa’s high-stakes plan. Soo-hyuk plays Jo Jun, a casino player who manipulates the odds, while Kyung-soo takes on the role of Choi Wooseung, a detective and Geonhwa’s fiancé.
The Dealer marks the directorial debut of Choi Young-hwan, known for his work as a cinematographer on films such as Smugglers, Veteran, Tazza: The High Rollers, and The Thieves.
