Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler Team Up for Hulu’s New ‘X-Files’ Reboot with Ryan Coogler
Danielle Deadwyler has been cast alongside Himesh Patel in Hulu’s reboot of the iconic series X-Files. The show received a pilot greenlight and will feature Deadwyler as a co-lead. The project is produced by Onyx Collective and 20th Television, with Jennifer Yale serving as the showrunner.
Sources indicate that both Deadwyler and Patel will portray original characters in the series.
Sinners filmmaker Ryan Coogler is set to write and direct the pilot, which follows two highly decorated but contrasting FBI agents, played by Deadwyler and Patel. The duo forms an unlikely partnership as they delve into decades-old cases involving unexplained phenomena.
Yale will executive produce alongside The X-Files creator Chris Carter, as well as Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler of Proximity Media. Simone Harris from Proximity Media is also on board as a co-executive producer. The cast for the pilot is being assembled by casting director Francine Maisler, with oversight from Proximity Media’s director of development, Dezi Gallegos.
This summer, Patel will reunite with director Christopher Nolan for The Odyssey, set to debut on July 17, 2026. The film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Matt Damon, Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya, among others. Additionally, Patel will reprise his role as Dr. Watson in Enola Holmes 3 for Netflix, co-starring with Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill.
On the television front, Patel is slated to appear in Bait, a comedy-thriller series created by Riz Ahmed. He is represented by 42, WME, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
