After years of speculation, fans are finally receiving clarity on the moment when Hilary Duff attended Lindsay Lohan’s 2003 Freaky Friday premiere, amidst reports of a rivalry between the two stars.
In a recent episode of Call Her Daddy that aired on February 25, Duff candidly remarked that she was “absolutely” attempting to provoke Lohan by showing up at the event over two decades ago.
“Yeah, I was a teenager!” Duff conveyed to host Alex Cooper, sharing a laugh. “But also, Chad Michael Murray invited me,” she added, referring to her co-star from A Cinderella Story. “I don’t want to start any more stuff, but he was like, ‘You should come with me,’ and I was like, ‘Mm-hmm. Probably I should.’ I mean, what was I, like 16? No, I think I was younger than that — 15?”
The tension between Duff and Lohan has been regarded as one of the standout rivalries of the early 2000s, largely fueled by the pair’s entanglements with Aaron Carter. Following Duff’s appearance at the Freaky Friday premiere, Lohan famously sought to retaliate by attending Duff’s Cheaper by the Dozen premiere a few months later.
During her podcast appearance, Duff expressed that she wasn’t surprised by Lohan’s response. “I mean, that was, like, my childhood feud, like, nemesis,” she stated. “I’m sure my publicist will be like, ‘What the f— are you doing?’ But now it’s so many years later, like, who cares?”
Duff recounted a subsequent encounter with Lohan, noting, “Also, Lindsay came up to me at a club once and was like, ‘Are we good?’ And I was like, ‘We’re good.’ She was like, ‘Let’s take a shot.’ I was like, ‘OK!’”
