Charlie Puth Calls Out Elon Musk Over Rocket Launch Noise
Recently, singer Charlie Puth voiced his concerns regarding the sound levels from SpaceX rocket launches in his Santa Barbara community, specifically pointing to disturbances from sonic booms.
In a post shared on December 10 on X, Puth remarked, “These sonic booms have gotten progressively louder since they started launching the rockets in Santa Barbara.” He noted that an early morning launch at 3 a.m. resulted in noise levels he estimated between 150-160 decibels, describing the experience as "violently" shaking his home and alarming his pregnant wife.
While Musk has not publicly responded to Puth’s comments, the official SpaceX website acknowledged the potential for sonic booms, stating, "There was a possibility that residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may have heard one or more sonic booms during the launch, but what residents experienced depended on weather and other conditions."
On December 10 at 3:40 a.m. PT, SpaceX launched 27 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. This marked the 18th flight for the first stage booster supporting this mission. Following stage separation, the booster successfully landed on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship stationed in the Pacific Ocean.
