HBO Max Coming to India Via JioHotstar
HBO Max has officially launched in India, marking a significant entry into the Asian market.
The streaming service, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), is partnering with Disney-backed JioHotstar as its exclusive distributor in the country.
Today, a dedicated HBO Max hub has been introduced on JioHotstar, featuring content such as Euphoria Season 3 and the upcoming House of the Dragon Season 3, in addition to the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone television series. The hub also includes Max originals, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Studios content.
This launch marks the first time HBO Max’s complete content library is available in India, following a previous multi-year licensing agreement that allowed JioHotstar to distribute individual HBO titles.

Kevin Vaz, CEO of Entertainment at JioStar, parent company of JioHotstar, commented, “This marks a defining moment in how premium global content is accessed and experienced in India.” He added, “By bringing HBO Max to JioHotstar, we are creating a unified destination for premium international content and raising the bar for quality content once again. We are combining scale, curation, quality, and ease of access. This unlocks a deeper and more immersive entertainment experience for audiences nationwide.”
In a statement today, Gibbons highlighted India’s position in the global streaming market, stating, “India is one of the most vibrant streaming markets globally, and in JioHotstar, we have a partner with unmatched scale and a deep understanding of local audiences. The launch of HBO Max exclusively with JioHotstar marks the next chapter in our long-standing collaboration, enabling us to broaden the reach of our premium brands and franchises and build deeper connections with fans across the country.”
While HBO Max has recently completed its rollout in Europe, launching in the UK and Ireland, uncertainties about its long-term future persist. Paramount CEO David Ellison has indicated intentions to merge Paramount+ with HBO Max if the studios combine in the future.
HBO Max will be available as an add-on service starting at ₹49 (50¢) per month, which will include access to JioHotstar’s full international content library.
