Hancock Park Car Accident Injures Two After Driver Runs Red Light
Violent Crash in Hancock Park Leaves Two Hospitalized
LOS ANGELES – A severe two-vehicle collision in Hancock Park early Friday morning has resulted in two individuals being hospitalized in critical but stable condition. The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. at the intersection of South Highland Avenue and 3rd Street.
Los Angeles police and fire crews responded to the crash, where officials reported that a black Honda, traveling west on 3rd Street, ran a red light and collided with a gray Honda moving south on Highland Avenue. The force of the impact sent the gray Honda crashing into a nearby wall and knocked out a traffic signal at the intersection.
According to investigators, the driver of the gray Honda, identified as Hardy, was ejected from the vehicle through the passenger-side door and collided with the wall. Meanwhile, a female passenger was trapped in the wreckage for approximately 15 minutes. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate her from the mangled car before both victims were transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The intersection was closed for several hours following the crash, but it has since reopened. However, with the traffic signals still nonfunctional, drivers are advised to treat the area as a four-way stop until repairs are completed by Department of Transportation crews.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
