Halle Bailey Shares Heartwarming Update About Son at 2026 Grammys

Bailey welcomed Halo, her first child with ex-boyfriend DDG, in December 2023. She announced his birth via an Instagram post on January 6, 2024, where she expressed her overwhelming joy and gratitude. "Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me was bring me my son… welcome to the world, my Halo. The world is desperate to know you," Bailey wrote.
During that period, as she worked on projects such as The Little Mermaid and The Color Purple, Bailey opted to keep her pregnancy private until after Halo’s birth. She later explained this decision at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards in March 2024, stating it came "from a place of protection."
"There was no way in hell I was going to share the biggest joy of my world with anyone," she said. "Halo was my gift. He is the greatest blessing, and I had no obligation to expose him, me, or my family to that."
In March 2025, Bailey revealed that Halo recognized her as Ariel in The Little Mermaid. A video on Instagram showed him pointing at the TV and saying "Momma" when her character appeared onscreen.
After Halo’s birth, Bailey and DDG announced their split after over two years together, describing the decision as challenging yet necessary. In the aftermath, Bailey sought sole legal and physical custody of Halo, citing concerns about alleged abuse.
In June 2025, DDG denied these claims and requested a domestic violence restraining order against Bailey, suggesting that she posed an emotional risk to their child. Both parties later reached a custody agreement in October 2025, leading to the dismissal of their respective restraining orders.
As Bailey continues to navigate motherhood amid her rising career, her reflections on family and personal joy remain at the forefront.
