Gunfire Hits LASD Patrol Car in Rolling Hills Estate
Patrol Vehicle Struck by Gunfire in Rolling Hills Estates
A marked patrol vehicle of a sheriff’s deputy was hit by gunfire on Sunday morning in the Rolling Hills Estates area, according to authorities. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) reported that deputies responded to a call regarding multiple vehicles speeding in the vicinity shortly after 9 a.m., specifically in the 600 block of Deep Valley Drive.
A deputy from the Lomita Station had just concluded a conversation with the caller when he heard a loud pop from the rear of his vehicle as he was driving away. After stopping to investigate, he discovered that his patrol car had been struck by a bullet.
"He observed and confirmed what appeared to be a single bullet hole on the passenger side of the trunk hatch; no exit bullet hole was found," the LASD stated. Fortunately, the deputy sustained no injuries during the incident.
In response, deputies, along with officers from the Palos Verdes Estates and Torrance Police Departments, as well as the LASD’s Aero Bureau, established a containment perimeter to facilitate the investigation. Authorities are advising the public to steer clear of the area near Silver Spur Road between Crenshaw Boulevard and Hawthorne Boulevard.
