Gracie Abrams, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter, recently shared her enthusiasm for her forthcoming single “Close to You” in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the Chanel Coco Crush Dinner Celebration in Los Angeles on January 7.
“I’m beyond ready for it to belong to everyone else. I’ve never felt this way about anything I’ve made before, so it’s definitely driving me crazy in a good way,” remarked Abrams, known for her hit “That’s So True.”

When questioned about the “scary” nature of releasing new music, Abrams expressed that she finds joy in that feeling. “I love the feeling. I really like it right now. I think I feel kind of calm about it,” she noted, adding, “I’ve been lucky enough to spend a lot of time with it.”
“At the end of the day, it’s all about the people you get to make things with and spend your time with, and that means the most to me right now,” she continued. “So, yeah, any day in the studio is a great day.”
Although Abrams did not detail her collaborators for the new songs, she has previously worked with notable artists. Grammy-winning producer Aaron Dessner contributed to her first two albums, The Secret of Us and Good Riddance, which were released in 2024 and 2023, respectively.
She received a Grammy nomination in 2024 for “Us,” a collaboration featuring Taylor Swift, who invited Abrams to join her onstage during the Eras Tour for this performance.

Abrams has also collaborated with artists like Robyn for a mashup of “Dancing on My Own” and “Close to You,” and Noah Kahan on a rendition of “Everywhere, Everything.”
While accepting the Songwriter of the Year Award at Billboard’s Women in Music event in March, Abrams reflected on her songwriting journey.
“Songwriting is wild — it’s sometimes wildly embarrassing, wildly informative. Sometimes, it’s like a drug. It’s our prose and our poetry. It is our most-private diary entries and our loudest clarion calls. It’s our hiding places, and sometimes, our very salvation,” shared the two-time Grammy nominee.
Abrams expressed gratitude for her experiences, stating, “I have been lucky to learn from and write with some of the most wonderful and talented people.”
She specifically mentioned her admiration for Taylor Swift, stating, “The incomparable Ms. Taylor Swift. I will never stop pinching myself, and I will never stop thanking her for the gift of her pen, which very much raised me.” Abrams also highlighted valuable contributions from songwriters Sarah Aarons, Audrey Hobert, Blake Slatkin, and Dessner in her career.
