Hawn Attributes Acting Skills to Genetics in Hudson
Goldie Hawn believes that her daughter, Kate Hudson, has inherited her acting talents. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Hawn highlighted the instinctive nature of Hudson’s skills, stating, “It’s instinct. It isn’t learning.” This remark was made during a Q&A session for Hudson’s new film, Song Sung Blue, at the AMC The Grove 15 theater in Los Angeles.
Hawn, 80, reflected on the family’s close-knit environment, noting, “We all live together. We’re a family together. And we have genetics that are very similar.” She emphasized that the family learns through experience rather than formal instruction.
“Katie’s obviously come from two people who make movies,” Hawn added, referring to her and partner Kurt Russell, “and with that, you see how we behaved.”
Kate Hudson, now 46, echoed her mother’s sentiments regarding her learning experience in the industry. She shared, “I think it’s also more about the set experience for me as a kid growing up than it is maybe about… Because we never got to work together.” Hudson emphasized that her greatest lessons came from the actors she collaborated with throughout her career.
In an emotional moment, Hawn admitted that watching Hudson perform in Song Sung Blue moved her to tears, stating, “We all cried in unison.” She commended Hudson’s continued ability to surprise her family with her talent.
In Song Sung Blue, Hudson stars alongside Hugh Jackman as Claire Sardina, part of a couple involved in a Milwaukee-based Neil Diamond tribute act, Lightning & Thunder. The film premiered on Christmas Day and is based on a 2008 documentary of the same title that explores the band’s origins and the couple’s relationship.
