Glendora Police Take Flowers from Vendor on Mother’s Day Due to Permit Problems
Glendora Police Crack Down on Unauthorized Flower Vendors Ahead of Mother’s Day
In a recent enforcement action, the Glendora Police Department issued multiple warnings to local vendors regarding necessary permits, confiscated bouquets, and arrested an individual for unlawfully selling flowers within 500 feet of an off-ramp without a valid ID.
Video footage captured by vendor Vanessa Roman illustrates her encounter with officers as they dismantled pop-up sales and seized her flower bouquets on the busy Mother’s Day weekend. Roman reported losing 300 of her bouquets, valued at $10 each, which translates to a significant loss of $3,000 in holiday sales. She claims to have a valid permit for her operation.
According to Glendora police, they confiscated approximately 200 bouquets, clarifying that the actions were taken due to confusion over ownership; they appeared to be abandoned. Roman received a $300 citation, with officers citing concerns that her business encouraged customers to stop too close to the freeway exit, potentially creating a traffic hazard.
"I was surprised," said Benjamin Santos, a longtime customer of Roman’s flower stand, expressing disbelief at the police intervention. Santos managed to find an alternative vendor across the street, where Josue Mendoza confirmed he had shown his permit to authorities and received assurance that his operation was compliant.
While Santos expressed disappointment over the closure of his preferred vendor, he noted relief in still being able to purchase flowers on Mother’s Day. The Glendora Police maintain that they regularly enforce city codes, emphasizing the importance of following regulations regarding sidewalk vending.
