Russell Crowe and his ex-wife, Danielle Spencer, welcomed two sons during their nearly ten-year marriage: Charles and Tennyson. They married in 2003, separated in 2012, and finalized their divorce in 2018. The couple celebrated the birth of Charles in December 2003, just months after their wedding, and Tennyson arrived nearly three years later.
In a 2016 interview with the Daily Mail, Crowe shared that following his separation from Spencer, they decided their sons would live with their mother in Australia. “Our main focus is on our children so they feel safe and secure,” he stated, noting they manage to have a family holiday together about once a year.
Crowe expressed a desire to discuss his children often, acknowledging the concern about their privacy: “It does impact their privacy and it does make them a point of conversation at school.” Despite the challenges, he cherishes fatherhood, describing it as one of the most special aspects of his life during an appearance on The Tonight Show in 2007.
Crowe occasionally shares moments spent with his children. In July 2022, he took Charles and Tennyson, along with some friends, to Italy. He posted a photo from the Colosseum on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Taking the kids to see my old office,” referring to his role in Gladiator.

Crowe’s first son, Charles, was born on December 21, 2003, just months after the wedding. Crowe recalled a memorable moment in a 2007 interview on The Tonight Show, when Charles, at age 3, seized the opportunity to speak at a radio press conference, announcing, “Daddy, I would like to tell a joke.”
While Crowe reminisced about his son’s early enthusiasm, he admitted he wouldn’t encourage Charles to pursue acting, describing it as an industry filled with “massive amounts of rejection.”
As Charles grew up, his perspective changed. By 2009, he was excited for his father’s role as Robin Hood, yet this excitement later morphed. “My eldest has a thing where he simply says, ‘Dad, never expect me to think you’re cool … doesn’t matter what you do, you can’t be cool cause you’re my dad,’" Crowe shared in a 2016 interview with Extra.
In November 2021, Charles graduated high school, a milestone that Spencer celebrated on Instagram with a rare photo, expressing her pride: “Time is flying way too fast. So proud of you. Love you beyond words Charlie.”

Tennyson, Crowe’s second son, was born on July 7, 2006. Crowe has often expressed an effort to engage with his sons’ interests. In 2019, he revealed he had gifted them an actual dinosaur head he purchased from Leonardo DiCaprio. “My kids, particularly my eldest, were fascinated, and they were into dinosaurs,” Crowe explained, noting that the gift was a special addition to their playroom.
As priorities shifted, Crowe shared that during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, his sons were quarantining with their mother in Sydney while he stayed in a remote area where his parents reside. When he inquired about their choice to remain in the city, Tennyson humorously responded, “Uber Eats.”
Through these anecdotes, it’s clear that while Russell Crowe is a dedicated father, his sons’ lives and interests continue to evolve as they navigate their youth.
