Former NHL player Sergei Fedorov, who spent a notable career with the Detroit Red Wings, expressed mixed feelings about leaving the team in 2003. Reflecting on his past decisions, he acknowledged some regrets but emphasized that his departure ultimately led him to his family.
Fedorov, inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015, celebrated a significant milestone on January 12. At the jersey retirement ceremony, his wife Corrina and their two children stood by his side, underscoring the importance of family in his life.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the ceremony, Fedorov remarked that having his family present made the moment “special.” He stated, “I may be a late bloomer as far as family and kids, but I want to make sure I do one thing at a time and I do it well. So when I was ready, thank god I met my lovely wife, and we became a family [and had] kids.”

Fedorov and Corrina have largely kept the details of their relationship private. However, during his jersey retirement speech, he disclosed that they met shortly after his time with the Detroit Red Wings. “Leaving Detroit when I did was a huge mistake; that is on me,” he said, adding, “one great thing came out of that situation. It sent me on a path to meeting the love of my life, my wife Corrina. I love you very much. You are my rock.”

Together, Sergei and Corrina have welcomed a daughter and a son. Although the exact dates of their births remain private, Fedorov mentioned during a press conference in January 2025 that their children are currently 8 and 9 years old. In a ceremony held in December 2024, he reflected on the importance of spending time with his family, especially during his coaching career with CSKA. “They matured very quickly,” he noted. “Unfortunately, I haven’t been home for a very long time. Now I understand how they live and what their interests are. The day starts at seven in the morning; I cook breakfast, dress the children, send them to school, and sometimes I take them myself.”

During a press conference in November 2025, Fedorov reaffirmed his commitment to family over pursuing a coaching career in the NHL. “I’m totally a family man,” he stated. “I think coaching or anything like that, it’s not gonna be on my mind. I want to stay with the family and grow together with my kids and be around for them.”

Despite retiring, Fedorov has remained dedicated to his coaching career, with his family providing support throughout his journey. The Fedorov family celebrated a triumphant victory in the 2024 Gagarin Cup Finals, with Corrina and the children by Sergei’s side during the celebrations. In December of that year, as his banner was raised at CSKA’s arena, his family was present to honor his legacy.

During the pre-ceremony press conference on January 12, Fedorov humorously noted that his children haven’t seen him play during his prime. “They are watching everything but their dad’s highlights,” he said, revealing that they prefer athletes like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. “I’ve tried to show them a few goals that I scored. My son says, ‘Okay,’ but not much emotion follows,” he added with a chuckle, speculating they may become more curious once they return to Russia.
