In a lavish villa basking under the Catalonian sun, American siblings Jack, Ed, Anna, and Robert grapple with their isolation and inherited wealth. Portrayed by Jamie Bell, Calum Turner, Riley Keough, and Lukas Gage, the characters seek love and validation amidst the complexities of their fractured family dynamics, all while navigating the expectations set by their blind father, played by Tracy Letts.
The narrative unfolds as Jack (Bell), the eldest brother, announces his intention to move in with his girlfriend, portrayed by Elle Fanning. This shift causes rifts within the family, prompting Ed to begin unearthing the truth behind their mother’s death. As generational secrets surface, the fragile fabric of their family begins to fray. The cast also includes Elena Anaya and Pamela Anderson.

A newly released trailer from Mubi highlights the tense family interactions, notably a dinner scene where the father pressures Anna to describe Jack’s girlfriend, even inquiring about specifics regarding her “bosom.”
Titled Rosebush Pruning, the film is a joint production by Mubi, The Match Factory, and Fremantle’s The Apartment, adapted from Marco Bellocchio’s 1965 drama Fists in the Pocket.
The direction is helmed by Aïnouz, known for Firebrand, with a screenplay crafted by Efthimis Filippou, a frequent collaborator of Yorgos Lanthimos, whose works include Kinds of Kindness, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and The Lobster.
Viola Fügen and Michael Weber are producing for The Match Factory, which is also managing worldwide sales for the film. The adaptation rights were secured from Bellocchio’s company, Kavac Film, with CEO Simone Gattoni producing alongside Annamaria Morelli for The Apartment.
