Fran Drescher Shares Her Thoughts on Her Ex-Husband in Candid Interview
Fran Drescher Reflects on Relationship with Ex-Husband Peter Marc Jacobson
Fran Drescher has opened up about her close relationship with ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson, revealing that their bond is stronger than ever, despite their past. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the actress shared insights into their unique dynamic, acknowledging that it sometimes complicates her dating life.
Drescher, who remains single, expressed no regrets about her current status. “It takes a lot of work!” she remarked when discussing relationships. She noted her reluctance to compromise, stating, “Selfishly, I don’t want to compromise…the more you live on your own, the less you want to do that.”
Jacobson, whom Drescher met at 15, was married to her from 1978 until their divorce in 1999. He came out as gay at the time of their split, and although it took them about a year to rebuild their friendship, they are now incredibly close. “We are soulmates,” she said, adding that they have learned how to be “happily divorced.” The two not only collaborate on writing projects but also travel together, sharing a family bond that has grown over the years.
Drescher humorously referred to Jacobson’s presence in her life, acknowledging that it can act as a “c—block” when it comes to dating. “I take him to everything, and I don’t really care,” she commented, emphasizing that their shared history makes it difficult for potential partners to compete.
Reflecting on her views about marriage, Drescher discussed the immense pressure often associated with it, stating, “You’re not supposed to be married to everybody just because you love them, and you learn that the hard way very often.” She highlighted the importance of individual happiness, noting that partners should not be solely responsible for each other’s well-being.
Her perspective seems to stem from a deeper understanding of relationships, as she considers herself a “Buddhist or a Bu-Jew.” This approach has influenced her views on growth and compatibility throughout her life.
As she continues to navigate her personal journey, Drescher remains grateful for the enduring connection she has with Jacobson, cherishing the evolution of their relationship.
