Former Chief Medical Examiner-Coroner Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran Passes Away at 77
Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran, the former chief medical examiner-coroner for Los Angeles County, has died, according to law enforcement sources. He was well-known for his involvement in high-profile death investigations, including those of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Carrie Fisher.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed his passing, remembering him as a "kind, caring and passionate person with a great memory and sense of humor."
During his over 30-year career, Dr. Sathyavagiswaran spearheaded modernization efforts within the coroner’s office, which included upgrading departmental computers, digitizing case files, and expanding the office into three buildings currently in use.
Notably, he testified in the murder trial of O.J. Simpson, where he provided detailed descriptions of the wounds on Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
Born in India, Sathyavagiswaran managed numerous mass casualty incidents in Los Angeles, notably during the 1992 LA Riots and the 1994 Northridge earthquake.
He was 77 years old at the time of his passing.
