A new television advertisement for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film *The Odyssey* offers viewers a first look at a character portrayed by ten-time Grammy-nominated rapper Travis Scott.
The minute-long teaser, which premiered during Fox’s Sunday broadcast of the AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos, features a scene with Jon Bernthal’s Menelaus and Tom Holland’s Telemachus. The tranquility of the mess hall is abruptly interrupted by Scott, who strikes a staff on the ground, commanding attention with an urgent warning about an impending war.
“A war, a man, a trick — a trick to break the walls of Troy,” he declares, as the trailer presents ominous visuals from the legendary Trojan War. “It burning, screaming to the ground.”
This star-studded adaptation of Homer’s epic features Matt Damon as the titular hero Odysseus, with an ensemble cast including Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Benny Safdie, Charlize Theron, Himesh Patel, Elliott Page, Bill Irwin, and Samantha Morton.

Nolan has previously collaborated with Scott; the rapper contributed the theme song “THE PLAN” to the soundtrack of the 2020 film *Tenet*. The two-time Oscar-winning director remarked in a 2020 interview with *GQ* that Scott’s “voice became the final piece of a yearlong puzzle.” He praised the rapper’s insights into the musical and narrative framework developed with composer Ludwig Göransson.
Following the release of *Tenet*, Scott shared a handwritten note from Nolan that complimented the director on the rapper’s video for “FRANCHISE,” which was featured ahead of certain IMAX screenings of the film.
Both share a deep appreciation for cinema. In a recent *Rolling Stone* profile, Scott emphasized the significance of preserving the theatergoing experience. Nolan, now at the helm of the Directors Guild of America, has consistently voiced his opposition to streaming-only releases.
While much about the project remains under wraps, the initial images and teasers have heightened anticipation for Nolan’s interpretation of the ancient tale. The narrative follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, as he navigates a perilous journey home after the Trojan War. To reunite with his wife Penelope, he must brave treacherous seas and confront mythical beings such as Polyphemus the Cyclops, Sirens, the nymph Calypso, and the witch goddess Circe.
Universal Pictures is slated to release the film in theaters and IMAX on July 17.
