First Look at ‘Lucky Weekend’: Kevin Alves from ‘Yellowjackets’ Shares Exciting Heist Film Preview
EXCLUSIVE: Kevin Alves, known for his role in Yellowjackets, is stepping into the director’s chair for the first time with the coming-of-age heist film Lucky Weekend.
The indie film boasts a cast that includes Yellowjackets co-star Alexa Barajas, Jessica Clement from Gen V, newcomer Clarice Wood, Jesse Camacho of Locke & Key, John Daniel from Wayward, Agape Mngomezulu from Ginny & Georgia, Jack Ettlinger of Death Note, Luke Hutchie from Ghosting, and Alex Ozerov-Meyer from Another Life.
Produced by Alves’ 31 Twelve Films in collaboration with Julian Smither and Barajas, Lucky Weekend is currently in post-production, with plans for a festival run in 2026.
Alves also penned the screenplay for the film, which follows 18-year-old Gabe as he discovers that his best friend has stolen his winning scratch ticket. In a bid to retrieve it before it is cashed in, Gabe enlists an eclectic group of friends. The narrative unfolds over a single weekend.
“The relationships in Lucky Weekend reminded me of kids at the park,” Alves commented. “You meet someone and within an hour, they’re suddenly your best friend and you’d go to battle for them. We want audiences to feel like part of the group, along for the ride. At its core, this story is about friendship — how it begins, how it shifts, and how it can save you.”
Alves is widely recognized for his performance as Travis in Showtime’s survival drama Yellowjackets, which is set to premiere its fourth and final season next year. He and his co-stars, including Ella Purnell, Melanie Lynskey, Sophie Thatcher, and Tawny Cypress, are preparing for filming on the Emmy-nominated series. Additionally, Alves has recently completed filming on the horror-thriller ScareBnB.
Alves is represented by D2 Management, Connekt Creative, and Bloch Law.
